The Works of John Vander Lyn: From Tammany to the Capitol

$20.00Price

Book made in conjunction with an exhibition held at the University Art Gallery in Binghamton, NY in October to November, 1970. John Vander Lyn was an American artist in the late 1700's / early 1800's who specialized in portraits. There are some beautiful portraits here, but also beautiful landscapes and stuff reminiscent of the old masters. Check out the painting "Ariadne Asleep on the Island of Naxos", I love that shit. PAFA in Philly owns it, but I'm not sure if their museum is open right now?

This entire book is black and white and has a ton of history about John, including a potential love affair with Aaron Burr's (the guy from that musical) daughter.

Softcover, 155 pages.

1970.

Condition: used, good. Some aging on the spine but otherwise nothing crazy.
