Color in Turner: Poetry and Truth - John Gage
This is a biography about English painter JMW Turner - Joseph Mallard William Turner - who was known for his beautiful, beautiful landscapes and the use of color. He wasn't always painting these gorgeous romantic marine paintings, and this book traces his roots through his humble beginings as the son of a wig maker / barber and a butcher (his dad was the wig maker and his mom was the butcher, you shouldn't assume things!!) to his super influential watercolors and oil paintings. This book also has both black and white and color pages featuring a lot of his most important works. I would say that this isn't necessarily an art book, although there are a lot of paintings, its very much a biography that also features examples of his work. Check out these works by him: Fonthill Abbey, the Light and Color series (Goethe's Theory), Shade and Darkness, etc to get the gist of how influencial this dude was.
